Encouraging children’s communication skills

Little Angels Pre School is excited about our journey along the ECaT Programme to provide a setting that fosters and encourages children to communicate and the impact this has on their development and future learning.

ECaT aims are to:

Improve children’s early language development
Improve the skills of the practitioners working with young children to support children’s language development
Increase the understanding and involvement of parents in their children’s language development (taken from Cheshire East website)

We look forward to this exciting journey with the support of our Early Language Lead Practitioner (ELLP) Steph Johnston leading the journey.

We have also been creating ‘Communication Friendly Spaces’ within the setting indoors and outdoors to provide smaller and cosier areas for children to develop their speaking and listening skills to enhance the children’s experiences within our ‘Outstanding’ provision.

Children’s Book Week 2011

This week is Children’s book week. To support Children’s book week we have invited the children to dress up as their favourite book character and to share their favourite books with us at Pre School. We will be looking at a range of books such as big and small books, audio books, animated stories such as the “Gruffolo” alongside traditional stories such as the “Gingerbread man” and the “Three Little Pigs”. We will also begin to look at the stories in more detail including the way in which they are structured.

Welcome to the Little Angels weekly news update.

This week we have been outside making the most of the unseasonably sunny weather! The children have been busy collecting ladybirds, and we had a visit from a prickly caterpillar.

Our new outdoor area is finished!!!

Our fab new outdoor play area

We are really excited to announce our new enlarged and totally revamped outdoor area is now finished, we have replaced the existing outdoor play surface with a new “highly realistic” artificial grass surface that the children love. We have also built a new outdoor story corner within our new raised garden growing beds that the children will be responsible for planting and tending over the coming winter months, we hope to have a bumper harvest come next spring.

We are looking for a keen gardening parent/grandparent that is willing to come in and help advise the best crops to plant and ideally visit us on a regular basis to help the children tend the growing beds, please contact Debbie or Georgia if you can help.

Q: What will my child need to bring when they start pre-school?

There are a number of things your child will need to bring to Pre School with them when they start. These things will include:

Uniform
Book Bag
A change of clothes (labelled in a bag) to leave on peg.
Outdoor shoes or Wellies and coat (these can also be left at nursery if necessary).
Comforters (not games or toys). Please note that staff cannot be held responsible for any broken items that have been sent in from home.

Please ensure that you supply these items, as we want your child to be as happy and comfortable as possible at Pre School.

Q: What can I do if my child is nervous about starting pre-school?

If you feel your child would benefit from additional visit sessions with you before starting, then please notify staff in order to arrange a convenient time and date. If you would like a home visit during the holiday then staff can come out and meet you and your child and through photos and toys can explain about pre-school.

Q: What should I do if my child is sick?

We would appreciate your support in helping to stop the spread of contagious/infectious childhood ailments. These include sickness and diarrhoea, conjunctivitis, rashes, head lice, thread worms etc. Please do not send your child for at least 48 hours after the ailment and inform staff by phone if your child will not be attending Pre School. If a child is off sick we cannot refund or credit sessions for non-attendance.

Q: Where and when should I pick up and drop off my child?

Dropping off
When bringing your child to Pre School we ask that you do not park in the school car park (this is for staff only) but in the surrounding roads to the school.
Your child needs to be escorted into the premises and signed in. As the cloakroom area is small we ask parents to leave pushchairs outside and be aware of
keeping the outside door closed. Please let staff know if someone else is collecting your child.

Collection
When collecting children we ask that parents/carers wait behind the gate by the first mobile classroom and enter through this at 11.45 am at the end of a
morning session, and 3.00 pm at the end of an afternoon session. A member of staff opens and stays on the door to stop children from leaving without an adult.

Q: What should my child wear to pre-school?

Wearing a uniform makes life easier for you and your child, we believe children learn through active involvement in all activities and sending your child in designer
clothes and their best clothes isn’t the best idea.

Please send your child in clothes that are easy for your child to take on and off promoting independence especially when using the toilet; buckles, clasps and belts make this difficult when your child is desperate.

We have red sweatshirts, polo shirts and t-shirts available to order with the Little Angels logo on so your children can play and explore different activities without worrying about getting dirty.

Children should have a change of clothes in case of accidents (these can be non uniform) in a bag on their peg. Wellies and a coat for outdoor wear enable the children to use the outdoor play area daily regardless of the weather.

We ask that all belongings are named.
